Diversity
We support and celebrate diversity at Telstra
Given the breadth of careers we have, and the size of company we are, it’s little wonder we have such a diverse team. At Telstra, you could be working with people from over 25 different cultures and backgrounds and who range in age from 18 to 77. Our beliefs and practices reflect diversity in terms of gender, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, and age.
A few areas in which we’re constantly breaking new ground include:
Women's Development
Our women are being challenged to step up and take control of their own development and career success through a My Mentor - Challenging Women to Step Up program, a self-paced multimedia package exploring personal brand, visibility, career planning, negotiation and work life flexibility. We have a vibrant and active women’s network at Telstra and support advancement of women in careers in network engineering, IT, and field-based roles. We proudly support Females in Information Technology and Telecommuncations (FITT) and are the first and only current Australian member of Catalyst, a global organisation expanding opportunities for women in business.

Men on the gender agenda
Our men are the first in the world to experience the My Mentor Alphaplus: men mastering gender leadership program. This program is currently exclusive to Telstra and helps our men build their own leadership capability and knowledge around creating inclusive workplaces for men and women.
The gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community
Telstra is among a handful of Australian corporates to establish a strong network for our GLBT employees. Spectrum was launched on 1 December 2008 and already has almost 200 members. All our employment policies are free of discrimination related to sexual orientation and Telstra has signed on to Australian Marriage Equality as an employer who recognises diversity of relationships among its employees and customers. Telstra continues to look for opportunities where it can remain progressive and inclusive as an employer.
Never too old
The value of experience and knowledge that mature workers bring to Telstra is imperative to our success as a company. We have a range of flexible options which mean older workers can enjoy their retirement and still maintain a fulfilling and rewarding career, with the benefits of social interaction and job satisfaction.
Don't Dis my Ability
Telstra has great products to help all people connect and live their lives their way. Our employees also have access to a great range of products that means sensory, physical or other disabilities are no barrier to great performance at work. We ensure our managers are well aware of the needs of the people in their team with disabilities and are equipped to provide equitable opportunities to them.
Indigenous Australians
Telstra's Indigenous Action Plan was launched publicly by our CEO in July 2008. It reflects our commitment to Indigenous Australians and recognises the value Indigenous employees bring to Telstra’s workplace and commercial success. We have specific goals around increasing Indigenous employment opportunities, building intercultural competence, promoting reconciliation and targeting the development of our Indigenous employees into senior roles.
