Wellbeing

Your wellbeing is our first priority.

When you choose to work at Telstra, you’re choosing a company that genuinely cares about your welfare. In fact, we value your health and safety above anything else.  We know that employees who are mentally and physically healthy are more likely to be engaged, committed and productive in all aspects of life. On a day-to-day basis, we do everything we can to avoid or minimise risks for you – and we promote good health (both mental and physical) at all levels of our business.

Telstra manages all aspects of employee health and safety, including training, risk management, compliance – and employee health and wellbeing.

Our health and wellbeing strategy

Our 2008-2011 Health and Wellbeing Strategy was launched in August 2008.

Telstra’s Health & Wellbeing strategy provides a comprehensive framework for effective investment in health promotion and prevention activities at all levels of the business. It aims to instil real, long-term behavioural and lifestyle changes.

Promoting good health
We believe we can help people make better choices, by creating awareness about the causes of illness and providing access to health information, tools and activities. All employees have access to a wide range of information, resources and self-checks to help them identify and manage health issues, with particular focus on cardiovascular disease, and mental health.

Supporting health-related events

We support and encourage employee participation in national health events such as Heart Week, Diabetes Week and Skin Cancer Action Week, by arranging promotional activities at our workplaces.  Employees also get involved in events such as the Global Corporate Challenge, walk to cure diabetes, Walk to Work and Ride to Work days.

Resilience

By allowing employees to assess and build their own resilience, Telstra is enabling employees to increase their personal capacity to handle life's challenges.  In times of constant business, financial and social change, this is becoming increasingly important.  Our Energising Life Program aims to help employees become more aware and proactive in terms of managing stress, mental health and overall wellbeing.

Employee Assistance Program

Telstra provides an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to employees and family members. This can help people deal with a wide range of personal or work related issues, ranging from pressure and stress, to personal trauma or anxiety and depression.  Employees can also benefit from the Life Coaching services offered by the EAP.

As part of the Employee Assistance Program, an online service is available, to help employees and their families access information about health-related issues – such as emotional health, relationships, work issues, stress, parenting and ageing.  For managers, we offer also offer a telephone-based service to help them deal with difficult or complex people issues.

Health and Fitness Programs

Through Telstra’s MyRewards program, eligible employees have access to health-related programs, gym discounts and other offers.
