Learning & Development
Your opportunities are endless.
We provide a huge range of formal and informal learning and development opportunities to help you continually grow your skills and knowledge which will help you achieve more in your role and be more successful in your career. As an organisation we aim to ensure our people have the capability to meet current and future business needs while contributing to Telstra’s transformation into a world class media-comms company.
We do this through:
The Telstra Learning Academy
Several years ago, we established the Telstra Learning Academy. This Academy currently manages a $200 million, five-year program which aims to match the technical skills of our workforce with evolving technology, products and customer needs.
Courses provided by the Academy include internet protocol, wireless technologies, customer service, stakeholder management, network planning and engineering and project management.
Our online learning portal
Learn.Achieve (LA) is Telstra's learning management system. This program delivers, manages and records all of the structured learning that takes place at Telstra. Through LA, you can find and enrol in a professional development course from the list of hundreds that are relevant to you. Many, such as Harvard and Stanford lectures, and professional development learning programs, are online and are available to you at no cost other than your time. LA also allows you to see a report on all the training you’ve completed; see the progress of any courses you’ve enrolled in; and even create a developmental plan with your manager for the year ahead.
Study assistance
In some instances, to help you actively expand your knowledge, Telstra can provide financial or operational study assistance. This might include reimbursement of up to 50% of your tuition, HECS or exam fees.
Learning networks
Research shows that informal learning significantly enhances individual and workforce performance. To help you learn from your peers as well as share your knowledge with other employees, we support and encourage the development of special interest groups, mentor programs, coaches and subject matter experts.
In 2008 we piloted the My Mentor program for Telstra women which is designed to increase their strategic business skills. This was extremely successful and has now been rolled out to over 440 women across the business.

On-the-job experiences
Working in an environment of rapid change requires measured risk taking, an ability to learn quickly and to apply the new knowledge in uncertain times. For this reason we design onboarding and induction programs for people new to Telstra. These practical and hands-on experiences help to build employees relationships with their new manager and team, to understand job requirements, to connect with the right people, to understand their place in the team, and to acquire essential knowledge.
Leadership Programs
At Telstra we’ve developed world-class leaders by investing in a number of enterprise-wide programs that develop the potential of our future leaders. These range from the Front Line Leaders Program through to the Executive Leadership Program for Telstra’s Executive Team. As all of our leaders are critical in achieving Telstra's transformation objectives, these programs help them achieve improved business performance and improved customer experience.
