Excelior, a national provider of training services, is offering a number of different traineeships across Australia in partnership with Telstra. As a paid Excelior employee you’ll have an amazing opportunity to do hands-on work within Telstra, servicing its large corporate customers. On top of gaining a nationally recognised qualification, you’ll receive coaching, mentoring and support by experienced Telstra specialists, which will place you in a great position to build a career.


 
 

The Traineeships


There are a number of traineeship programs available:

  • 9 months in Telecommunications (Certificate 2) – QLD, NSW, VIC

  • 24 months in Telecommunications (Certificate 2 & 3) - nationally

  • 12 months in Information Technology (Certificate 3) - Adelaide
  • 24 months in Information Technology (Certificate 3 & 4) - Sydney

    All programs combine classroom training with practical work experience at Telstra to apply and build on your skills.

Telecommunications Traineeships - National


Telstra is committed to the success of the communications industry and is prepared to invest in the future by ensuring there is a skill resource from which the industry may draw from in years to come. This program is a wonderful opportunity for you to develop the skills necessary to build a career as a Communications Technician.


Technicians are the people you see every day, everywhere in Australia. These are the people who maintain and build Telstra networks, whose work ensures Australians can remain connected.


As a technician your work is varied which means that no two days are ever the same. Some of the work you would be doing is installing and maintaining Telstra’s infrastructure for telephone, broadband, satellite and wireless.


 

When working ‘in the field’, you will be liaising directly with a variety of customers ranging from people at home, to small business operators, to major organisations. As a Technician you are often the face of Telstra to our customers and you’ll be having an enormous impact on their lives and businesses. This is an extremely rewarding and important role to have.


 

IT Traineeships - Adelaide and Sydney


This is a great opportunity to kick start your career in the IT industry and learn about the IT helpdesk function, gain skills in managed IP networks, fault diagnosis and customer service.


 

We are at the cutting edge of technology, and right now the enormous transformation that we are undertaking means there are amazing opportunities to develop a career in the most fast moving areas of our business. You’ll be a part of one of the most dramatic technology transformations in the world and could be a part of cutting edge technology and exciting projects.
 

You will be liaising directly with a variety of Telstra’s large corporate customers. You are often the face of Telstra to our customers and you’ll have an opportunity to make a positive impact. These roles are extremely rewarding and important roles to have.


 

Certificate 3 in Information Technology, Next Generation Operations – Adelaide


Next Generation Operations (NGO's) vision is to provide Telstra customers with world class delivery and support of their Next IP Network so they can conduct their businesses smoothly and efficiently, enabling next generation services to improve the way people and organisations work. NGO provides support to some of Australia’s largest companies in managing their IT network needs and ensuring they function efficiently and effectively.


 

Located in Adelaide the Certificate 3 in IT traineeship will take 12 months to complete, during which you’ll receive coaching, mentoring and support by experienced Telstra specialists. You’ll also be given all the training and theoretical knowledge required to supplement your on the job training.


 

After completing the traineeship your opportunities are endless, as the program provides you with a springboard for further opportunities to develop skills and a career in IT. Future career paths may take you into specialist technical or customer service roles, IT operations, IT administration, IT support or network engineering.


 

What you’ll be doing day to day


Adelaide Managed Network Operations centre provides a national single point of contact for all customer service assurance calls for Telstra's IP solutions products and platforms.


In your role you’ll be the first point of contact for customers reporting network faults, as well as monitoring customer alarms located in their networks. Once trained you will attempt to rectify the issue for the customer and keep them updated on the restoration progress. You’ll also get an insight to the more complex fault diagnosis process, by working with experienced technicians.
 

Throughout the program you will learn invaluable skills in business acumen, interpersonal and customer service skills, whilst becoming proficient in the systems and processes which support Telstra's IP product suite. The dynamic Adelaide team has a broad range of technical expertise and industry experience and you’ll be working with them to achieve common goals and targets, contributing to the overall customer IT assurance program.


 

Certificate 3 & 4 in Information Technology, Enhanced Operations - Sydney


The Enhanced Operations team at Telstra is responsible for providing managed Network Services to Telstra’s large enterprise and government customers. Our service management teams build, operate, maintain and manage the life-cycles of the fully outsourced customer networks.


Located in Sydney, the combined Certificate 3 & 4 in IT Traineeship will take 24 months to complete, during which you’ll receive coaching, mentoring and support by experienced Telstra specialists. You’ll also be given all the training and theoretical knowledge required to supplement your on the job training.


After completing the traineeship your opportunities are endless, as the program provides you with a springboard for further opportunities to develop skills and a career in IT. Future career paths may take you into specialist customer service roles, technical analyst roles, liaising with customers coordinating or managing operational IT issues, or network service management roles.


 

What you’ll be doing day to day


Our Sydney operational service management team provides an international single point of contact for our managed service customers, primarily supporting a range of products including voice and data networks and supplying service management support aligned to an ITIL V3 framework.


In your role you will be gaining experience in service desk functions and using best practice to deliver outstanding customer services to our customers across our range of services. 
 

Once trained you will be in a position to serve customers by reviewing, analysing and working to resolve faults as part of the Service Desk specialisation. This opportunity will provide you with hands on experience and knowledge of all the major service management processes required to support our customers.

You’ll need to enjoy working with computers, working in a team, and be passionate about providing outstanding customer service.


 

What is the selection process?


The selection process has a number of steps which, in addition to the application form, may include a telephone interview, assessment centre interview, and reference and background checks.
