Our vision for reconciliation
Telstra’s purpose is to create a brilliant connected future for everyone. Our vision for reconciliation is to see our purpose come to life for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Our Reconciliation Action Plan 2015-2018 sets out what we’re committed to doing to bring reconciliation and create social, economic and cultural change. We’re aiming to double the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees by 2018, significantly expand our telehealth network in remote areas and introduce new programs in cyber safety and digital literacy. There’s also a $30 million infrastructure fund between Telstra and the NT Government for new mobile services and broadband to remote communities across the NT.
We’re doubling the number of cultural immersion experiences for employees, increasing our employee events to celebrate and recognise National Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week, and increasing our support of the RECOGNISE campaign - the people’s movement to recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Australian Constitution.
As Australia’s leading telecommunications and technology company, we’re in a unique position to promote reconciliation. We’re committed to achieving positive educational, health and economic outcomes for indigenous Australians and believe that by promoting diversity and inclusion we can enrich our communities, our workforce and the experience of our customers.
Telstra’s RAP has the highest rating – “Elevate” – from Reconciliation Australia. Find out more about our Reconciliation Action Plan.
