My future is turning data into customer insights
As GM of Analytics Media and Marketing, I manage a team of data analysts and data scientists who analyse our customer insights to improve the services we provide to them. That’s key to our goal of helping our customers get the most out of their communications technology, to connect in new and better ways.
In my experience, analytics teams are quite technical and other parts of the business find it difficult to understand how to leverage what they can do. That’s been a big part of my focus – connecting smart data analysts with smart people across the rest of marketing to support our wider teams in things such as promotions, product development and product management. I feel it is really important to work closely with these teams so they understand how we can help them to deliver what customers want.
Telstra helps me by continuing to invest in data and the tools and technologies to leverage it. Most importantly, I’m supported in my quest to find the people with the skills to use it effectively.
Sitting on the advisory board for the Centre for Business Analytics at Melbourne Business School allows me to connect with students who are potential future talent for my team, but it’s also a great way to contribute to this growing industry.
My career growth has been supported through initiatives such as our industry-leading Future Marketers Program, which emphasises design thinking and data-driven insights to help people across our entire marketing function stay on top of latest and emerging trends.
Working in partnership with other teams in Telstra enables us to get a lot of fantastic results in terms of personalising customer communications and achieving business objectives. And that is one of the main reasons why I love my job – using data to help customers to connect with whatever improves their lives.
My future is about creating a world-leading capability in analytics that is critical to Telstra’s success. This will take a team who can not only make sense of the data, but also communicate its value in an engaging way. And I’ve got a unique opportunity to build up that team here, which is so exciting.
