I love being able to learn
I’ve seen a lot of change in my time at Telstra. When I started, I was one of the first advisors in digital business, which was a new product at that time. I saw that evolve from one team to hundreds of employees. I then changed over to the NBN team and got to see that grow too.
Before I came to Telstra I worked in security, retail management and tech support. Here, I’ve done everything from managing the phone queue to provisioning, billing, customer escalations and testing products and services before they became publicly available. It’s meant I’ve worked with engineers and managers in different circumstances I’d never normally come across.
I love being able to learn in my role; that keeps me really happy and stimulated.
Telecommunications is an evolving industry and that makes it challenging, so you need to be on your toes to keep up with all the changes.
One of the best things here is the management. When I started I expected it to be corporate and formal, but in four years I really haven’t met any manager who was like that. People are welcoming, they’re available and they’re very personable, they’ll have a chat.
I also love the flexibility. If I need to dash home for a parenting emergency my managers are understanding. It’s a really friendly and warm environment to be in. And being a big company with lots of opportunities, I know I’m going to be here for a long time.
