My future is putting us on the map
I’m originally from Melbourne and started out in retail sales at a Telstra store before moving to China. I loved the culture in Australia so when I was lucky enough to meet Telstra’s CEO and the General Manager of China at a Mobile Asia conference in Shanghai, it felt like old times! We had a great chat and they told me about the local offices and expansion plans for Asia. After hearing that, it was a no-brainer to join Telstra for a second time.
My role involves business development so I see myself as more of a hunter than a sales manager. Being based in Beijing I look after North China and work with many internet companies who need support as they grow their services overseas. Here, it’s not just about selling your products. My days are mostly spent building relationships and seeking new business as the market is developing very fast.
I love working with Aussies and head back to Melbourne as much as I can. The time I spent in the retail store was so much fun. We had a brilliant team, a very friendly culture and high quality managers who built up my confidence and supported my career. I made some great friends and still keep in touch with them.
Telstra is well on the way to becoming a global company and our challenge is to continue to develop our business in overseas markets.
For me, part of that is also identifying smart investment opportunities so that our core business becomes more diverse.
I put a lot into my job and that brings me recognition and rewards such as great career pathways. This year I want to exceed my targets, build more pipelines and push for better sales scores. I love trying new things and Telstra China gives me the opportunity to do that.
