My future isn't just a legal one
Telstra’s size means we’re one of the biggest in-house legal teams in Australia. That kind of scale is exciting, especially when you’re in a position to create an amazing environment where people feel the sky’s the limit.
One of the ways I’ve done this is to help change the way our legal team works together. We are a more flexible and productive team than ever before which creates great outcomes for the projects we work on.
My team provides legal support to Finance & Strategy in Telstra. Most of my team members are new, and one of my goals is to make sure they are all empowered to make the most of all of the incredible opportunities that come their way.
Before I joined Telstra, I’d describe myself as a reluctant lawyer. I was good at it, but I battled being a professional in a suit and wanting to be creative. It’s why I left law to run a film company for a while. Coming to Telstra gave me the chance to do something I’m passionate about, building businesses, and be creative at the same time. My future here isn’t just a legal one.
I love my job, but because Telstra is so big I can put my creative energy into areas outside my immediate role.
I’m really excited my idea for Telstra’s ‘Innovation Challenge’ is becoming a reality.
Basically, people with ideas for improving products and customer experience can apply for a few weeks off from their job and get together with like-minded colleagues to get their vision up and running.
I guess that willingness by the company to invest in making your ideas come to life sums up what I really enjoy about Telstra. There’s a genuine understanding here that people want to be inspired, feel their talent is supported and that they have the power to make things happen.
