My future is full of opportunities
My role as Business Operations Team Manager involves leadership of my team and partnership with Directors in the Global Enterprise and Services part of our business. I help analyse and find solutions for their business areas from a financial, commercial and people perspective.
I like change, opportunity and challenges – jumping into something unknown to test myself. I’ve been able to do that continually throughout my career at Telstra.
After I completed the graduate program, a Team Leader role came up to look after the network engagement team for a major banking client. I hadn’t tried people management so I it was a great opportunity to try something I hadn’t done before.
From there I moved into business operations in a 2IC role which then gave me the opportunity to be the acting General Manager for over a year. This was a huge professional development opportunity – more exposure to Directors, to business issues, to really understanding what it takes to support a business and about the challenges involved in doing so.
The thing I’m most passionate about in my current role is the people leadership element because it’s something I get a lot of personal satisfaction from. It’s definitely something I want to pursue for the foreseeable future.
I’ve been lucky enough to attend a few training programs – as a graduate you have a number of modules on personal development plus business acumen. Telstra also supports leadership skills development and recently I was nominated for a postgraduate development program. It’s a massive investment in my future.
Every time I’ve taken an opportunity it’s turned out to be a great learning decision. I’m excited about my future, if the last five years are anything to go on. I thrive on change and because things are always changing, every day brings another opportunity. That’s what excites me about working here.
