My Future is ready to explore
I’ve been with Telstra for nearly 8 years. I spent most of that time in New Delhi, and recently relocated to Mumbai. In that time I’ve seen our brand awareness across India grow beyond recognition. In my role in the Sales team, I look after telecom providers. When I joined the business, only people in the industry knew the Telstra name. Now almost everyone does. There isn’t an open market here – you can only go in and pitch to specific businesses so relationships are very important. My job is to build those and add value by showcasing Telstra’s world-class services.
I’ve always liked trying new things, so after starting my career in hospitality, I spent some time working for a mobile service provider. After that I travelled to Australia to complete my master’s degree. It was a memorable time and I fell in love with the country – especially Sydney and the Gold Coast. Two years later back in India, I saw Telstra were hiring and jumped at the chance. It’s been a great experience ever since.
From day one, Telstra’s way of working felt very different to the Indian businesses I’d worked in previously. For example, there’s no real hierarchy here so you feel in control of both your job and your career path. You also have a choice about where you want to work. Technology means we can work from anywhere but I love coming into the office because I get to see friends – it really does feel like a family.
Personally, I feel ready to explore new opportunities outside of India, but that doesn’t mean I have to leave Telstra. I’m really happy here.
We have lots of training programs throughout the year and I have a lot of options in terms of what I do next.
In three years, I’d love the challenge of running my own team in a people manager role.
