My Future is leading my own team
I was working at Pacnet when it was acquired by Telstra in 2014, and since then I’ve seen a whole new world open up. Here in the Philippines, Telstra is investing for the long-term and that makes a big difference to the way I work in enterprise sales. Pacnet was mostly about developing products but now we’re more focused on selling solutions; that gives us more time to develop our understanding of customer needs and build relationships.
I’ve been in sales my whole career and love the everyday excitement. You meet all kinds of people and when you get results, the business recognises and rewards your efforts. The Philippines market is challenging because it’s heavily regulated and geared towards equipment such as servers and firewalls. My job is to look for new customers and show them the difference that using Telstra’s world-class services will make to their business.
Becoming part of Telstra’s growing team has been really empowering for me.
There are a lot more layers in terms of people to learn from and a bigger portfolio of services. There’s also more support and frequent training. Every day you see the investment Telstra is making in both its technology and its product suite.
Short-term, my plan is to continue achieving sales and promoting our brand. The integration of Pacnet’s infrastructure and services will go a long way towards helping Telstra become a powerhouse company in Asia. That’s really motivating because it will mean exposure to lots of new people, technology and resources. Beyond that I’d like to combine my customer interaction with the responsibility of managing a team, which is something I’ve done in the past and would love to explore again further.
