I am one of the lucky ones
It's like Forrest Gump said, “life is like a box of chocolates”.
Your career is like a box of chocolates - you never know what you’re going to get.
I have been with Telstra for 14 amazing years across three beautiful countries – first in Singapore, then Malaysia and now Hong Kong. The journey has been extraordinary, a life-changing experience.
I moved to Telstra in Hong Kong in May 2015, just weeks after its Pacnet acquisition, and I didn’t really know what to expect.
Now here I am, in this foreign land as the Head of Global Service Desks for Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and the UK. This is a huge responsibility but it’s a challenge I was ready to take.
Since I’ve started in my new position, my experience has really been put to the test – not only do I have to excel at what I do, but at the same time touch the hearts of my new team members.
I see it not just as a job, but a relationship with my team that will last for a long time and I think that this mindset has paid off. I really am fortunate; my teams have accepted me with open arms, just the way I am.
I am grateful for this opportunity and would never trade this experience for anything in the world but if you’re ever faced with the chance to grow your skills and learn, I encourage you to take it.
And just like that box of chocolates, everything you get is going to teach you something along the way.
That’s what will make you the person you will become tomorrow; after all you make your own decisions in life and it’s these choices that will define you.
My advice to all is to give your best when opportunities arise – your efforts and contributions will not be forgotten and will be rewarded in due course.
