Can you believe we’re already midway through the first month of the new year?
As you settle into the swing of 2016, you might be thinking about how your ideal year may look. And for many people, that means thinking about life at work – whether that’s taking on new responsibilities or projects, a different job or perhaps even a complete career change.
The good news is that 16 of 19 Australian industries are expected to see job increases in the next three years. According to Seek Learning, new technologies are leading to more demand for people with niche skills across many industries. The highest number of new jobs are in areas such as education and training, healthcare and medical, and information and communications technology.
At the Telstra Careers Centre, we’re expecting to place thousands of people into jobs this year – many of them in these areas (for example, did you know Telstra is working towards bringing quality healthcare to every Australian through Telstra Health?). They’ll be able to do things they love, explore new career paths and help us innovate with the latest technology.
It’s an exciting time for us, too - we recently became one of the largest careers services centres in Australia after bringing our recruitment entirely in-house. It means we now have a dedicated team of more than 100 people handling most of our recruitment in Australia, who will focus on providing a world-class service for candidates and hiring managers alike.
We’ve streamlined our processes to make the hiring process faster and easier. Our recruiters have an extensive understanding of our business units and functions - so when you apply for a job with Telstra, you know the recruiter you’re dealing with will know exactly what you’re going through and where you’re headed.
As much as possible, you’ll also deal with the same person from beginning to end – they’ll walk you through our recruitment process from screening to interviews to contract generation.
We’re excited about these changes, and how they will help the people who want to join our business this year and beyond.

Happy New Year, may yours be full of joy!
