Why I joined the Telstra Graduate Program in Asia

I’d already known about Telstra having been to Australia a couple of times and seeing the brand promoted widely. As a large company with a presence in several countries, I knew a job here would mean I’d be exposed to a lot of diversity and have the opportunity to develop a global view of the marketing industry. However, what excited me more was that the company continues to have its eye on international growth, with a strong focus on Asia.  I think it’s quite rare to find an opportunity like this and thought it would be an exciting prospect that would present unique learning opportunities for me.

What really attracted me most to Telstra was the values it upholds. I remember going through the website and reading about the different experiences that employees and other graduates were having and felt Telstra was a company that truly valued its employees and had a strong company culture.

I also wanted to be part of the Telstra program due to the rotations and the mentor program. I thought the rotations would enable me to experience different business units and help enable me to understand the business better.

I was encouraged by Telstra’s willingness to walk every step of the way with me and help me achieve my career aspirations.

I’m currently in the Pricing Strategy Team and I work with people based all over the world. My team is predominantly in Hong Kong and that means many of our meetings are virtual - something I’ve grown very accustomed to! My role has evolved just over the past five months - from data collation and reporting to becoming the marketing manager of the International Pricing System (IPS) and a pricing architect for one of our new applications! It’s been very exciting wearing many hats; juggling multiple projects and assignments all at once.

My manager has definitely been most valuable to my development. He’s exceptionally open to me leading projects and gives me a lot of freedom to spread my wings. He motivates me to perform better through honest feedback and supports me.

I feel respected for my opinion on business and team matters, and feel empowered to work even harder when my managers and colleagues express their confidence in my ability to deliver, by giving me opportunities to prove it. Everyone is extremely supportive of the work I do and they’re always offering help if I need it. Their support makes me feel valued and only motivates me to do even better!
