An exciting opportunity exists to join Telstra as an experienced Legal Counsel to provide legal support for the Sales teams for our largest corporate customers.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role is for an experienced Legal Counsel to provide legal support for the Sales teams for our largest corporate customers.  Reporting to the Legal Business Partner – Sales, you will be an integral part of this collaborative and inclusive team, where your key focus will be to provide high quality advice on issues of strategic importance to Telstra and contribute to driving the Legal team strategy.

SOME OF THE SPECIFICS AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Managing a volume and complexity of work commensurate with your experience
  • Giving legal advice that is clear, commercial, fit-for purpose and tailored to the audience
  • Being well organised and delivering on agreed commitments
  • Developing proficiency in technology tools and agile ways of working
  • Working well in a team and developing capability to enable movement into other teams to meet  peak periods of demand or business priorities
  • Understanding the strategic priorities, legal requirements and current and emerging risks for the parts of Telstra their Practice Area supports
  • Exercising judgment, providing options and being willing to make the “tough calls” in writing
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with clients and be able to deliver difficult messages whilst maintaining an effective relationship
  • Reinforcing with clients the appropriate ways of engaging with the legal team to drive adoption
  • Identifying opportunities to stop or more efficiently manage work of low strategic priority to Telstra, and to work with Practice Managers and Practice Leads to implement necessary solutions

WHAT YOU'LL BRING                        

To be successful in this role, you will require a current practicing certificate and at least 4 years’ post-qualification experience, with some in-house experience desirable but not essential.  You will also possess the ability to solve complex problems, and contribute to the developing strategy, whilst effectively engaging and influencing key stakeholders.
