What will be your purpose?

As a Senior Data Systems Engineer your purpose will be to:

·         Manage data systems, transforming and processing multiple pipelines of data to meet business requirements and deliver data optimisation.

·         You will be responsible to establish methods and tools to gather data, process data, and minimise variables and data limitations by leverage data system and platform capabilities to solve new data problems and create data engineering solutions.

·         Map data between source systems, data warehouses and data marts, creating supporting documentation on the data process flow

·         Engage with stakeholders across the enterprise to understand and address the needs of business problems in the delivery and integration of complex data platforms and insights

You must be Melbourne based, or willing to relocate.

What will you bring?

  • 3-5 years’ experience in designing, building and testing highly scalable reusable data processing pipelines
  • Experience building data pipelines with integration testing using CI/CD and testing frameworks
  • Transform data in a ready-to-use form for Data Scientists who are looking to apply statistics, machine learning and analytic approaches to solve critical business problems.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and BI specialists to determine what data is needed and the best way to structure data.
  • A proven ability to:

    • Work with an existing lifecycle management framework to collect metadata, follow coding standards, use version control, complete documentation and write and execute unit tests.
    • Analyse data sources to assess their applicability to solve a business issue and data processing pattern needed to ingest and transform the data
    • Extract and transform data from a variety of sources and subsequently cleanse, standardize, scale, bin, categorise, tokenise, stem and transform it as it moves through a Data Lake, Data Vault and Data Consumption layer
  • Possess the following traits:

    • Intellectual curiosity; exploring new territories and finding creative and unusual ways to solve data management problems.
    • Patience; as nothing will work the first time.
    • Focus; enjoy working in the detail and understanding the intricacies of how and why a data pipeline works as it does.
  • Experience with a range of technical skills that could include:

    • Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Storm, HBase, Hive, MapReduce, Pig, Zeppline, Kafka, Ranger, Ambari.
    • Programming languages such as JavaScript, Java and  Python, PySpark, Scala and SQL

Desired qualifications:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. Bachelor or Masters Degree in Software Design, Engineering or Computer Science)

Critical skills:

  • Experience in Telecom domain and working on telecom specific data sources is a plus
  • Experience in designing data models for data warehouses, particularly Data Vault 2.0.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of designing, building and testing highly scalable reusable data processing pipelines
  • Sound working knowledge of Big Data tech-stack including but not limited to Hadoop, Spark, Storm, HBase, Hive, MapReduce, Pig, Zeppline, Kafka, Ranger, Ambari
  • Data ingestion development experience using JAVA, Javascript, Python, PySpark, Scala and SQL
  • Good understanding and working experience of Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence principles
  • Proven experience in working and using CI/CD and testing frameworks
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as BitBucket, Source tree and Github
  • Good understanding of Agile ways of working and experience in using JIRA and Confluence
  • Knowledge of current trends and advances
