About the role

The core of the role is to significantly improve Telstra’s accessibility maturity across its Digital assets, with a huge opportunity to influence everything from the Telstra’s public facing T22 strategy to consulting on project specific work and building capability with the group.

  • A strong advocate for enhancing the value of accessibility to unlock capability and capacity
  • Best practice world class standards for digital channels and patterns that include rationale, usage rules, customer research and insights related to pattern and accessibility guidelines.
  • Building out the 3rd pillar of Telstra’s accessibility vision for the T22 strategy.
  • Influencing ‘ways of working’ with a progressive mindset on delivery vs intentional architecture with the chapters to ensure maximum adoption and contribution to the design and dev community.
  • Measuring impact and pace which results in measurable returns of trust, traffic and revenue, affording greater team investment.
  • Inspiring designers so they are constantly reviewing the competitive and comparative landscape and cataloguing experiences that set the benchmark for a world-class experience across accessibility, diversity and inclusion.
  • Working with Missions / project teams to clearly describe issues, influence designs and provide actionable recommendation on accessibility.

 About you

  • Strong technical proficiency across digital accessibility and inclusive design
  • Proficient in HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • Independent WCAG auditing on web and native mobile platforms
  • Experience using assistive technology for testing such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack. Experience with Dragon NaturallySpeaking is a bonus
  • Basic understanding of WAI-ARIA and commonly used ARIA attributes
  • Setting up the user testing framework and owning the relationships with suppliers
  • Systems thinker: proven ability to identify and articulate the customer, business and technical tradeoffs of UX/ UI design and code
  • Proven experience with designing across multiple UI frameworks (e.g. responsive web, native app in IOS/Android)
