I make tech accessible for everyone
I never thought I’d work at Telstra. My first degree was in Civil Engineering, which I loved, because it has the ability to leave an impact. However, I was also keen to study commerce, so I opted to do a masters in management finance which I also really enjoyed. When I was going through the application process, I had a few different offers.
I chose Telstra because here, you can go into finance, products, strategy, consulting, media, marketing, HR – whatever you want!
There is the flexibility to develop yourself, and get well-rounded skills.
I’m currently working in New Business (NB) as part of the Telstra Health team. I went into Health because it's a new area with a strong focus on its business strategy, a skill I really wanted to develop. In my role I helped look for new opportunities and focused on providing customers with efficient and accessible solutions. I’ve just moved on to a new project that I’ve been fortunate enough to run, which sits across Telstra Health and our Smart Home product. Working in Health has really helped me develop the skills I wanted to learn.
Prior to this rotation, I was in a team that supports the Global Enterprise Sales (GES) business to do their job as efficiently as possible. We identified and managed new initiatives to increase revenue, and reduce cost across the GES sales teams, as part of this I did a lot of business case development and financial modelling. I also got to meet a lot of people in the GES business - all the way up to senior leaders and executive directors. I got some great face time and a strong insight into how the business operates.
My third rotation is coming up and I’m doing it in one of our start-ups, ProQuo - it’s basically a small business marketplace where you can swap and procure services. I really wanted to work in a start-up environment and this is as close as I can get to it in Telstra, there’s only eleven people in ProQuo!
It’s a really exciting time to be at Telstra with so many opportunities for grads to chase. Telstra is set up to be really welcoming, hands-on and interactive with grads; everyone, including senior leaders, are keen to meet you and talk to you about your ideas. As a grad, you can find people who are similar or different to you and choose an area that best suits you. I’m glad I have the choices that allow me to go down my own path.
