My future is investing in new ways to power our transformation
I’m the General Manager (GM) for strategic partnerships for Telstra Ventures and I currently manage a set of portfolio companies that we invest in and are accountable for.
It’s really driving market success in sales programs, marketing campaigns, and awareness of both the technologies and capability of our ventures.
I enjoy my time at Telstra mostly due to the diversity of experience here. As an organisation, we have sub-businesses and different channels to market both overseas and at home, which means we get to work with different people and technologies often.
The environment is ever-changing and no two days are the same so there’s never been a chance for anything to get boring or repetitive.
To succeed in a role here you’ve got to be quite flexible and open to change. One thing that’s pretty consistent with the organisation is change, so as long as you can be adaptive and work towards developing yourself in line with the business you’ll be quite successful in the long term at Telstra.
My goal for the future would be moving with the innovations that are coming our way. The responsibility is on us to continually evolve and Telstra is a leader in that space.
Having a corporate lens on our investments really requires us to ensure that we’ve got our business imperative associated to those investments, and therefore there needs to be some commitments from individuals when it comes to taking something to market.
A lot of our investment companies are integrated into parts of Telstra today and we’ll continue investing and influencing that strategy, taking it to the cutting edge of innovation with these really smart people to develop Telstra as a technology company, rather than just a telco.
There is great support here, and opportunities for our people to excel in their careers. I mean that in a sense of development programs, specific domain training courses, even people leadership programs to really help refine skills.
Also, the people here are always willing to provide mentorship and guidance at senior levels which is a good recipe to support success in your career at Telstra.
One of the key highlights in my career so far was the chance to live and work in Indonesia.
It was amazing to be able to work in another country and create a stamp over there, deploying and delivering technology solutions in another part of the world.
I’m really proud of those achievements and being able to do that, coming back with a wealth of experience that drives me forward in my current role and could very well take me to whatever role comes next.
