My future is built on big ideas
I’ve been at Telstra for more than a decade and part of the reason why I’ve stayed for so long is how diverse we are as a company. There’s the ability to have so many careers within one company and that’s been really satisfying for me. If ever you want to diversify your experience and knowledge as well as the impact you can have across different areas of the business, you can likely find it in your career at Telstra.
I have a background in mergers and acquisitions, and when I was in the Mergers & Acquisitions team, worked on a number of exciting domestic and international transactions on behalf of Telstra where we bought, sold or formed joint ventures with technology companies around the world, from China to Silicon Valley.
“At Telstra, you’ve got the ability to have so many careers within one company and that’s been really satisfying for me.”
I have also had a number of roles within the mobiles team, which has given me some amazing opportunities, including attending Mobile World Congress in Barcelona every year to meet and exchange ideas with more than 100,000 attendees from the world’s largest (and smallest!) mobile and technology companies from around the globe.
My current role as Head of Mobiles for Consumer and Small Business, is to help drive innovation in our mobile plans, products and services. This is so we can continue to lead the market in delivering to our mobile customers the best possible value and customer experience, which we know will ultimately translate to growth in our sales and profitability.
During my time in the mobiles team in a variety of roles, one of the most exciting elements has been launching new models of our most popular smartphones every year including iPhones, Samsung Galaxy phones, and the exclusive-to-Telstra Google Pixel to name a few.
In addition to device launches, I have also helped introduce and continually improve the experience for our mobile customers to access services such as live, fast and data-free streaming of exclusive sport (AFL, NRL and Netball) and music (Apple Music), international roaming, and home-wireless broadband for those customers who are not able to access fixed broadband.
For a long and successful career at Telstra, you need to put yourself out there and be prepared to diversify your experience and move into different areas of the business. Things are changing all around us and that means the business is changing, so the work you’re doing now may not be the work you’re doing later so long as you’re ready to embrace change and take on new opportunities as they come... then they will come to you.
